How to play Hex

Hex is a beautifully simple connection game played on a diamond of hexagons. Two players take turns colouring one empty hex each. One player is trying to build an unbroken chain of their colour joining the top edge to the bottom edge; the other is trying to join the left edge to the right. Because the board is a diamond, exactly one player always succeeds — Hex can never end in a draw. Simple to learn, deep to master.

The swap rule

To keep the first move fair, Hex uses the "swap" rule: after the first player's opening move, the second player may either play normally or steal that move for themselves. Choose the board size (9, 11 or 13) and play the computer on Easy, Normal or Hard, or pass the phone for two players.
